Meet Emily Burns, a pink-haired singer who’s about to rock the pop music world. The pop artist is only 22 and puts her heart and soul into every song she writes. Her honest and insightful lyrics flow into catchy hooks and stuck in your head melodies.
Like mega pop stars Charli XCX and Mø, Burns puts her no cares attitude on full blast in her tracks like “Bitch” and “Girlfriend At The Time.” Her infectious tracks will all come together in her upcoming mini-album Seven Scenes From The Same Summer.
What should new listeners know about you and your music?
That all of my songs are true stories. I am as real and honest as possible in my songwriting, I always try to write about things that I am actually going through or have gone through in the past. Yes, I have had that many bad dating experiences.
What do you hope listeners take from and feel listening to your music?
I want my music to be fun to listen to. If I can make other people feel happy when they listen to my songs, that would be amazing – that’s the goal.
Where did the inspiration for the album come from?
The whole mini-album is inspired by love stories that I’ve been involved in myself. That’s why I’m always so grateful for those experiences, bad and good, because they provide inspiration and feelings that I want to write about.
How has your music evolved since you first started to Seven Scenes From The Same Summer?
When I first started out in music, my sound was a lot more acoustic. I still LOVE playing live acoustically and having quite an organic live show but, my sound has been influenced a lot by various pop artists and the people around me over the years. If I played you some of my earliest demos, you probably wouldn’t even recognize me!
What has been your biggest challenge with this album?
I think the biggest challenge has been finding the right people to work with. Through writing this mini-album, I’ve now found a team of producers and co-writers who I really trust and have a mutual understanding with and I can’t wait to work with them more in the comings years!
What are your favorite tracks to perform live?
I really love playing “Bitch” live… it’s so much fun to get the audience singing along to the “You don’t have to be a” chant. “Cheat” is another favourite of mine, especially since I’ve started incorporating a loop station in my set – it feels like it really grooves. It’s the one the audiences seem to react the best to, I think because it’s quite an empowering, feel-good song.
What can we expect to see from you the second half of 2018?
These 7 tracks are just a small selection of what I’ve been working on for the past year. So you can definitely expect to hear more music from me later on in the year. I’m also working on my live sound at the moment and announcing my first headline show at Sebright Arms in London, so more gigs, more releases and lots more fun.
Lastly, tell us a little bit more about the songs or the theme you chose for your playlist?
My playlist is “Cheat” themed… so it’s compiled from all of my favourite songs about lying and cheating. Not the most cheery topic I know but wow, has it produced some bangers!
