5 Under 5000 (June 2018)

We recently introduced a new series here at Acentric Magazine called “5 Under 5000”,  highlighting artists with under 5000 likes on their official Facebook pages. Each month we will share five amazing artists we feel are worthy of your “likes”, along with more in-depth interviews in the following weeks to share more about who they are and why they do what they do. Our team at Acentric loves finding new music and sharing it with others, so if you like what you hear, by all means give these pages a like and please spread the word!

If you have access to Twitter, you’ve more than likely heard of  “The Internet’s Favorite Boyband”, MILKK.

Composed of lead singer Pat Kiloran, guitarist Jack Vondrachek, and drummer John Ogelby, MILKK have slowly, but surely begun to take the internet by storm. The trio’s first ever single, “Pacific Kiss”, along with songs “IDWK”, “Less Than 3” and “Ice & Sugar”, were first uploaded solely to YouTube and Soundcloud in late 2017. Sporting an uplifting and soothing sound, the group quickly gained a small, yet incredibly supportive, fanbase. Their official debut EP, Sad Girls was released earlier this year and has since acquired 240,000 streams on Spotify. On June 15th, 2018, the band will release their second EP, If You’re Reading This, I Love You via Good Time Records.

MILKK will be kicking off their first-ever tour in early July and will be hitting seven Midwest/East Coast North American cities. Tickets are available at wearemilkk.com/tour.

You can listen to the first single from their upcoming second EP, and our personal favorite, “Secret’s Out”, below!

Hailing from Los Angeles, CA, Tiny Stills is a power pop band that first hit the scene in 2014 influenced by Courtney Barnett, That Dog, and 90s/00s rock. Founding member Kailynn West fronts the band as lead singer and guitarist with a rotating cast of band members with their most recent lineup including Harry Foster (bass), Zach Comtois (guitar) and Tony Thaxton (drums).

The band recently released their second album Laughing Into the Void out on June 1st. The album is full of tattoo-worthy lyrics, brutal honesty, crunchy guitars and catchy melodies that help you remember that even the worst days have a silver lining – at least you’re not alone. The first single off Laughing Into the Void, “La La”, boasts an incredibly catchy, toe-tapping melody along with uplifting lyrics that will no doubt have you bouncing along to the beat. “La La” is a great introduction to what you can expect from the rest of the album.

Laureline is the Los Angeles-based Indie Pop four-piece comprised of Chris Rasmussen (vocals/guitar), Ciera Bardowell (vocals/keys/guitar), Marian Nutley (bass) and Nico Hernandez (drums/percussion). Still fairly new to the scene, the band spent much of 2017 refining their sound before they kicked off this year with a residency at the Wayfarer in Costa Mesa, California.

The band seeks to blend singer-songwriter roots and synth pop to create an atmosphere of both feeling and escape; love and loss. Laureline recently released their debut track entitled “I Love You”, a dreamy, ethereal synth-pop tune with sweeping instrumentals and soothing vocals. Despite its pop exterior, “I Love You” remains one of the more contemplative songs the band has written and leaves much anticipation for their future releases.

You can listen “I Love You” below.

Glow

Glow is a four-piece rock band from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. These guys caught our eye – or should we say “ears”? – for their emotionally-charged music, honest lyrics and the incredibly interesting story of the band’s beginnings. You would have never believed that within two weeks of meeting, band members Brandon Archer and Ryan Mitchell officially formed Glow and wrote what would become their debut EP Cherish You.

Glow only met as a group twice before going to Earlygrayce Studio in Louisville, KY to record their debut EP with producer Jordan Haynes (Artifex Pereo). For the production of the EP, Glow was able to secure a guest appearance of Bradley Walden of Emarosa, in addition to the mastering services of Kris Crummett. All six of the songs on Cherish You were written from an emotionally vulnerable place and revolve around a message of coping and empathy. As a newly formed band, Glow has already accomplished much in their short time together thus far and we’re excited to see what else is in store for the band.
