Boston Calling 2018 Artists To Watch: Weakened Friends
Festival season is officially upon us, and we’re looking forward to making our way back to Boston Calling Music Festival this year! Though far from a surprise, this year’s line up welcomes some of the biggest names in mainstream music–such as The Killers, Tyler, the Creator, Eminem, and more. Moreover, there are a lot of underground and under-appreciated artists that will take the stage this year as well–some even making their festival debut.
Acentric Magazine is here to shine light on artists that fall under either category with this daily Artists To Watch series. From now until festival weekend, we’ll be counting down the days letting you in on who our most anticipated performers are this year, from the fairly local Weakened Friends to Grammy-Award-Winning rock-pop stars Paramore.
Artist/Band: Weakened Friends
Genre: Indie/Alternative Rock
FFO: Potty Mouth, TAT
Playing On: Day 3
Why You Should Watch: Relatable, charming, and ultimately jammable. If you are looking for your new favorite band to help release your angst, look no further. While fairly-local, stretching from Boston, MA to Portland, ME, Weakened Friends snagged a spot on this year’s Boston Calling festival after receiving much deserved praise, such as winning awards at last year’s Boston Music Awards (Unsigned Artist of the Year) and Portland Music Awards (Best Indie Act). With their punchy instrumentals, catchy melodies, and cathartic lyrics, we’ve deemed Weakened Friends the best band for a bad day (or any day, really). We’ve got their latest single “Hate Mail” on repeat gearing up to scream the lyrics out during their set.
