Brand New kicked off their Canadian tour last night in Vancouver, BC. The show itself was highly anticipated as it sold out almost immediately during presale causing the band to add a second date. Friends of the band, Greater Pyrenees, began the night with a slow but progressive set followed by the iconic mewithoutyou.

Brand New took the stage setting the mood for the night as Jesse Lacey, front man, opened the show with “Sealed to Me,” sung in complete darkness. Aside from an entrancing set list and the floral decor,  the audience was completely captivated by Brand New’s nearly polished performance. Gazing through out the nearly sold out crowd were some of Vancouver’s most passionate fans singing along to every single verse. It was refreshing to see hardly any phones illuminating above, as everyone seemed to be focused solely on the music.

However, fans were shortly met by heart ache as Jesse fulfilled a rock-star cliche by smashing his guitar before he walked off stage at the end of their set. With a pitch black fade out, Brand New officially announced their highly anticipated retirement as a banner which read “BRAND NEW 2000 – 2018” with a floral cross illuminated the now empty stage.

Moments after, Brand New released a shirt online with the banner’s design, which has enraged the internet since.

Brand New is back for round two tonight in Vancouver for another sold out show that is sure to be the last to be played in our city.
