City And Colour recently finished a US run with support from Noah Gundersen. The tour made a stop in New Haven at College St Music Hall. The show was nothing short of momentous.
Opening up the night was an acoustic performance by Noah Gundersen, a solo artist from Seattle. Gundersen is also the vocalist of the rock group Young In the City. Right off the bat Gundersen took everyone’s breath away as his powerful vocals echoed throughout the room. The raw emotion in his voice sent chills up listeners’ spines. Perhaps one of the most striking moments of his performance was his cover of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana. Artists often hesitate to cover songs of such a huge caliber; however, his acoustic rendition of the hit song was a unique and memorable experience. Original songs performed included “First Defeat,” “Blossom,” and “Ledges.” Noah Gundersen blew any expectations out of the water and left the crowd excited for the main act.
Finally, City And Colour took the stage, treating the nearly sold out venue to a set bursting with melodic acoustic tunes and compelling vocals. The talent behind the name, Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Green, played alongside a backing band to deliver a dynamic performance. Green played content off of his latest effort If I Should Go Before You, such as “Woman,” “Lover Come Back,” and “Map Of The World.” The setlist also included popular songs, “The Girl,” “Hello, I’m In Delaware,” and “We Found Eachother In The Dark.” Between songs the room was filled with fans cheering and shouting, “I Love You Daniel Green.” City And Colour’s music is both vulnerable and identifiable, making it easy for the audience to engage themselves fully with the performance. With just a voice and a guitar, Daniel Green has the ability to capture an entire room’s attention with his soulful tunes.
City And Colour will be touring Canada and the US at the start of July.
