Fresh Finds: Soulful singer Jessica Childress is a breath of fresh air to modern music
We live in a world where myriads of monotonous music are being released at an outrageously fast pace. It’s rare to find an artist whose music provides a breath of fresh air in the midst of all of the clutter.
Jessica Childress is the breath of fresh air we never knew we needed, but are so glad we found.
The Los Angeles based singer/songwriter boasts an enormous, soulful voice combining disco vibes, traditional R&B and an infectious rock ‘n’ roll energy. Following her appearance on Season 4 of NBC’s The Voice, Childress has been determined to make her mark on the world with her music. She has self-written and produced her Don’t Forget My Name EP, opened for names such as Patti Labelle and Allen Stone, performed at SXSW and Bottlerock Napa – and that’s only naming a few of her achievements.
Childress has recently released her debut album Days, which she worked on with producer/drummer Alex Elena (Alice Smith, Citizen Cope) and producer/guitarist Topher Mohr (Mayer Hawthorne). The album touches on a number of relatable topics such as relationships, bad break-ups, self-love and more.
With compelling lyrics and remarkable instrumentation, it was hard to choose our favorite track from the album. Our first taste of Childress’ music, titled “Starting Today”, is an all-around empowering and soul-filled and has us falling in love with Childress’ music over and over again. Check out the opening track from Days – along with the rest of her album – below.
In a recent interview, Childress stated that 2018 was going to be her year. She’s figured out who she wants to be, what she wants to sound like, and what imprint she wants to put on the world. If 2018 is the year this all comes out, then it’s going to be a damn good year for Jessica Childress and we can’t wait to see what happens next.
