In the year of our Lorde in “TwentyGayteen”, on an otherwise average Wednesday night, fans were lined up for hours eager to see their beloved “queen of the gays”. Currently on tour in support of her recently released album Expectations, Hayley Kiyoko made her way to sunny Southern California for an Orange County show at the Observatory. Along for the ride was her opening act, singer/songwriter Jess Kent, hailing all the way from Australia.

Playing a loaded set full of songs off Expectations and other fan favorite hits, Hayley won the hearts of every guy, gal and non-binary pal in the audience that night. With each song, the crowd danced and sang with an unrelenting energy and adoration for their “Lesbian Jesus”. Her sultry dance moves, melodic voice and charming nature captivated all who were in attendance. The fans were not shy about their love for her either. Throughout the night, various objects such as a turquoise bra and rainbow flags were thrown onto the stage. Tereza Kačerová, who played the lead (ex-)love interest in the “Curious” music video, also made a special appearance as she danced on stage and was serenaded by the singer as well.

Hayley has been a significant role model for the LGBTQ+ community using the topic as a main focus in her music and accompanying visuals. Never one to shy away from sharing the importance of being your true self, Hayley took a moment to encourage her fans to “be courageous, be brave and choose [to love] yourself”.

The “Expectations” tour has only just begun, so be sure to catch Hayley on the remainder of her tour and come out to support her when she hits the road with Panic! at the Disco later this summer.
