This past holiday weekend, the city of Los Angeles had a couple of extra things to be thankful for. On Black Friday night, Switchfoot and Relient K’s Looking for America Tour made its way to the City of Angels to rock out at the historic Hollywood Palladium. Switchfoot announced weeks prior to their L.A. date that the band would be teaming up with Live Nation TV to live stream the sold-out show called the “Cold Turkey Party.”

Having recently released new albums this year–Air For Free (Relient K) and Where the Light Shines Through (Switchfoot)–this tour proves that these guys no signs of slowing down. Both Switchfoot and Relient K have made a name for themselves in alternative and Christian rock genres and continue in the same stride. Their overall message is one of love to overcome the brokenness and a hope in something, or rather some One, greater. Throughout the set, each band provided a balance with incorporated many of their hits from previous albums along with tracks from their latest records.

Relient K opened up the night with their happy-go-lucky vibe. They played hits such as “Sadie Hawkins Dance,” “Who I Am Hates Who I’ve Been,” “Be My Escape” and “High of 75.” The band ended their set with the ten-minute track “Deathbed” with the help of Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman to end the song on its more hopeful note.

Switchfoot brought such an electrifying energy to the show. Between Jon’s constant interaction with the crowd and his bandmates and the crowd singing along with zeal, the energy within the Hollywood Palladium only skyrocketed by the end of the final song. Throughout the night, Jon spoke words that echoed what seems to be lacking in the America he knew, hence the theme of “looking for America.” Words such as “If you come from a different background than me, if you look different than me, you are my brother” and “Love is not in the violence, the injustice, the racism… Let justice flow” resonated with many in the venue. Songs of hope, brokenness, love and faith in the midst of our nation’s dark times were met with many open hearts.

The first leg of the “Looking For America Tour” wrapped up in San Francisco the following night. The second leg, dubbed “Still Looking for America  2our” kicks off on January 21st, 2017 in Fresno, CA.
