Linkin Park and Fort Minor’s Mike Shinoda released his debut solo album on June 15th 2018 kicking the release off with a free show at Amoeba Music Record Store in Hollywood, CA the previous day.
Fans lined up and camped out the night before for front row spots and a chance to meet Mike after the show.
KROQ’s Nicole Alvarez welcomed Mike on the the stage and right off the bat Mike had a warm and comforting feel to him. He admitted that he usually has a walk on intro song, but today he was improvising and had a very special show for everyone in the crowd.
He began with “Welcome” a Fort Minor classic, and continued to give fans everything they waited for; a nostalgic and wonderful mix of Fort Minor, Linkin Park and new solo music.
He brought out his dear friend K. Flay to perform a new song off Post Traumatic called “Make It Up As I Go” which is a strong hip hop song full of energy and bounce.
Mike also paid tribute to his dear friend Chester Bennington asking the crowd to help him sing his parts of “In The End” by Linkin Park.
Fans teared up and sang at the top of their lungs as Mike played the soft melody on the keyboard. It was a moment of unity and peace among him and the fans.
I felt extremely lucky and humbled to experience such a thing live, and it truly pulls at your heart strings.
