Playlist: Matt and Kim Are Back on the Stage, and We’re Here For It

Brooklyn’s most iconic indie-rock duo Matt Johnson (keys) and Kim Schifino (drums), better known collectively as Matt and Kim, are back and better than ever before. With their sixth studio album on the horizon and their U.S. headline tour with Tokyo Police Club currently underway, we are excited to have the pair back and shining in the scene as always.

Their new album ALMOST EVERYDAY is set to release Friday, May 4th via FADER Label. The new album is expected to be their most personal release to date, as it was written during Kim’s intense recovery from an onstage injury in early 2017, setting the band back for an entire year. Though this was the longest they have ever been off the road, the time spent at home was, of course, spent wisely. We can expect vocal appearances from friends like Mark Hoppus, SWMRS, King Tuff, and more on the upcoming album, creating a musical force as lively as their actual performances.

On writing the new album, Matt shares, 2017 was not a great year for us. Kim got real depressed during her recovery, and anyone who knows Kim (or has seen her play) knows she’s such a bad-ass upbeat person so it was hard. Then of course almost everyday it seemed like there was another terrible headline. I feel since the beginning of music people have used writing songs as a form of therapy, but I’m not sure we ever really did…until 2017.”

To welcome Matt and Kim back to the stage, we’ve put together a playlist featuring fan favorite hits, as well as their powerful new singles from the upcoming album, to get you geared up for their current tour (see tour dates below). Listen to our Spotify playlist below!
