The Artists You Must See at Sunfest 2018
If you haven’t heard by now, Sunfest is the place to be during the first week of May. With a variety of artists of all genres slated to play each day, there truly is someone for everyone to see this year. Daily set times are already posted, so you don’t have to worry about who is playing which day, and which pass to buy. Only want to go for one day? Single day passes are available. What about only two days? You guessed it – two day passes are available. Or, if you want to spend the whole weekend enjoying the iconic Intracoastal Waterway in downtown West Palm Beach, four day passes are also available. Either way, we compiled a list of the must see artists at this year’s festival to help you plan your trip to Sunfest.
10. Brother Sundance
If you’re on a quest to discover great local music at Sunfest, Brother Sundance is the artist for you. Brother Sundance is Rylan Talerico, a self-taught musician/producer. His friends join him on stage as his live band, and together they put on an unforgettable performance. Brother Sundance brings a breath of fresh air for indie-pop lovers. lovelytheband is a fresh trio born in the year of 2016 in Los Angeles, CA. If you’re familiar with Oh Honey, the band is led by former member Mitchy Collins. Chances are, you’ve already heard their single “Broken,” which has been rotating on radio waves since late last year. Putting a spin on indie-pop, lovelytheband has infectious electronic vibes and captivating lyrics that generate good vibes. Catch them open the Tire Kingdom stage on Sunday May 6 at 1:00PM.
Coming to life in 2014, DREAMERS have gained an impressive amount of momentum since the release of their debut LP in 2016. Having SXSW, Lollapalooza, BottleRock Napa Valley, and Florida’s own Riptide Music Festival under their belts, it’d be a surprise if you haven’t heard of the trio until now. Be sure to catch them on the Tire Kingdom stage on Friday May 4 at 7:30PM.
7. Olivia O’Brien
Olivia O’Brien may be an unfamiliar name to you, until you’re reminded of the hit “i hate u, i love u,” which is an original by O’Brien, featuring gnash. The singer strives to write and produce empowering songs for women, such as her single “Trust Issues.” Also having a song with well acclaimed rapper blackbear, it is hard to not know who Olivia O’Brien is. Check out the rising pop artist on the Ford stage on Friday May 4 at 8:00PM.
6. Sir Sly
Having been around for six years now, Sir Sly has pumped out some of the catchiest tunes to hit radio waves in years. The trio is signed to Interscope Records, and has since landed prime features. Chances are, you’ve heard their songs on alternative radio, or maybe an Assassin’s Creed trailer, Cadillac commercial, or NFL intro. Sir Sly will perform a set to remember with their catchy lyrics and intoxicating instrumentals to match. Watch them at the jetBlue stage on Thursday May 3 at 6:15PM.
Hailing from Omaha, Nebraska, 311 is a reggae funk rock band that knows how to put on a performance. The quintet ambushes the stage with their amped-up energy and puts on a one-of-a-kind show. Even if it sounds like they won’t be your cup of tea, check them out if you have the time. They’ve been around for thirty years now, they’ve mastered the art of live shows. Catch them at the Ford stage on Saturday May 5th at 9:00PM.
4. Rae Sremmurd
Hip hop duo Rae Sremmurd have been releasing hit after hit since their major release “Black Beatles.” The song is distinctive itself, and was the soundtrack to the Mannequin Challenge late 2016. The pair have also toured with The Weeknd, and are gearing up to go out on the road with Childish Gambino. Watch these guys headline the jetBlue stage on Saturday May 5th at 9:00PM.
We know that you know at least one DNCE song- “Cake By The Ocean” took over the world in late 2015, reaching top 10 in several charts. The band is led by Joe Jonas, who isn’t the only Jonas brother performing at the festival. If you want to jam to funky tunes played by unique, off the wall instrumentalists, stop by the jetBlue stage at 2:45PM on Sunday May 6. You won’t regret it.
2. Nick Jonas
Want to see two Jonas Brothers at the same festival? Of course you do. Nick Jonas has proved himself to be an excellent solo artist since his return in 2014. Now having three solo records under his belt, collaborations with Demi Lovato, Tove Lo, and Tinashe, Nick has a song for almost any occasion. Join him at Sunfest at the Tire Kingdom stage on Saturday May 5 at 9:30PM. Your friends that stayed at home for the weekend will be “Jealous.”
Rapper, singer, and songwriter Logic has been on the charts since last year. His first single to be an international top 10 hit, “1-800-273-8255,” has quite simply made history. Using his platform for greater good, Logic puts on an incredible show and intertwines meaningful speeches through his sets. Packed full of energy, the rapper puts his all into live shows. Watch him close out the Ford stage on Thursday May 3rd at 8:45PM.
