On Thursday night, The Regrettes hosted a private showcase for the release of their newest EPAttention Seeker at The Bootleg Theater and it was an unforgettable experience. The Los Angeles based punk band debuted their new music in their hometown with a night of good vibes and a whole lot of dancing.
The Regrettes are an electrifying punk band with a 50s and 60s rock sound that pushes and transcends genre. They’ve opened for bands such as Bleachers, Kate Nash, Jack Off Jill and several others.
The Regrettes released Attention Seeker right before they head out on a West Coast headlining tour this Spring. In the following months you can catch them at a multitude of festivals including Coachella, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, Firefly Music Festival and others that remain TBA. The new EP features two new tracks “Red Light” and “A Teenager in Love” along with their new single “Come Through”. In addition, two acoustic versions of their songs “Hey Now” and “A Living Human Girl” have been made for the EP.
On the EP, the band’s 17-year-old front woman, Lydia Night, sings and writes about personal experiences. Her songs are an open book into her life and the emotions that come with it. Night builds songs straight out of her diary, laying it all out on the floor. Lead guitarist Genessa Gariano, 20-years-old, emits empowering vibes along with her graceful playing. All of the sounds are then tied together as 19-year-olds Sage Nicole (bass) and Maxx Morando (drums) create an infectious and captivatingly, groovy rhythm to hold up as the backbone of the beat.
The Regrettes’ dedicated support was apparent on Thursday night as fans lined up early in hopes of getting a good spot at the front of the stage. In line were two girls who drove down from Redlands, California. One of them had already been to seven of The Regrettes’ shows and brought her friend, a new fan of the band. Both ladies radiated excitement as they awaited the band’s set.
The room began to fill with anticipation as the night progressed. Finally, the lights dimmed and The Regrettes took the stage. Morando on the drums started off the night with high energy as the band began to play “I Don’t Like You,” off of their debut album Feel Your Feelings Fool. No body in the entire crowd was still as they sang the words back to the band. The friends from Redlands were spotted dancing in the pit, clearly having the time of their lives. The setlist was a variation of old songs and the new. The Regrettes’ live performance blew everyone out of the water as energy poured out of the band and into the crowd and vice versa. Night jumped into the crowd during “Picture Perfect” and handed the mic to passionate singers as she danced along with everyone at eye level. The band finished their first set with their single titled “Hot” and exited the stage for a brief moment. When Night came back for an acoustic performance of “Cold”, her big powerful voice sent chills throughout the room. Finally, the rest of the band took the stage one last time to close out the night with their song “You Won’t Do” sending their fans off from the EP release show with a night to remember.
If you haven’t yet, put The Regrettes at the top of your must watch list and try to catch them at a festival or show near you! Rock out to their new EP Attention Seeker and don’t forget to check out their music video for “Come Through” below.
